DPRD Vice Chairman Supports Sidewalk Opening in Front of US Embassy

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Deputy Speaker, Khoirudin supports efforts to open sidewalk access for pedestrians in front of the United States (US) Embassy Office building.

I support the Jakarta Provincial Government to restore the function of these public facilities

According to him, the sidewalk or pedestrian is a public facility provided by the government to create a sense of security and comfort. Moreover, besides closing the sidewalk access, roadways were also closed or used inappropriately.

"I support the Jakarta Provincial Government to restore the function of these public facilities so they can be used by people who walk. So, they shouldn't walk in areas that are crossed by vehicles because it can be dangerous," he expressed, Friday (9/6).

He also wants the access road connecting Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and Jalan Kebon Sirih on the east side of the US Embassy, to be reopened.

"Many of these pedestrians are actually users of public transportation. So, I think this access road will make it easier for them to reach Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan or Jalan Kebon Sirih without needing to walk any farther," he explained.

According to him, the US Embassy must also be willing to respect the rights of pedestrians in Jakarta. Moreover, other embassies also did not close the sidewalks near their offices.

"This is also part of the fulfillment of a sense of justice. Hopefully, the sidewalk in front of the Embassy can be opened as soon as possible," he added.

Surely, it will also better describe if the security situation in Jakarta is conducive.
